Meet Rob, The Brain Behind JALD SE

With nearly 25 years of experience in sports media there isn’t much I haven’t seen or done. As the voice of the Calgary Flames, I chronicled the triumphs of the city’s premier sports team while also sharing the compelling narratives of my community in Calgary/Southern Alberta, where both work and life thrive. My commitment has always been to challenge listeners with information rather than mere affirmation. In 2019, my contributions were recognized with the prestigious Bell Memorial Award, and I had the honor of being inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame.

During my off-air time, I delved into business operations and marketing, collaborating with various amateur and professional sports teams in Calgary. This journey revealed a new passion—using elite sports as a vehicle to narrate the stories of our community partners in a more profound way than the industry standard.

I am not just a voice; I’m a sought-after expert, serving on several boards, including being a Director for Sport Calgary and a Board Member for Kidsport Calgary/Flames Sports Bank. My unique blend of broadcast, sports management, leadership, and community-building experience allows me to engage across different sectors. I’ve identified myself as a “creative disruptor,” consistently challenging institutional or traditional thinking when necessary.

I’m eager to share my extensive experience and expertise with you to help find solutions that are unique, groundbreaking, and position your brand, project, or organization as a leader in our community.

What Does JALD Mean?

JALD was the name of my fathers business. He used the middle initials of my sister, mother, himself and me to name his billiards hall.

I credit not only my love of sports but passion for working in the community to him. I named JALD SE as a homage to him.

JALD SE is Built On 3 Principles

I Have Failed and That Is Okay

I learned a long time ago that failure is the best teacher. While I am proud of the successes I have been part of, I make sure that my work is informed by all of my experiences. That means I pay attention to the details and ensure that the right questions are asked.

Safe Thinking Will Get You Nowhere

Most good ideas may never see the light of day because many are risk-averse. There is a difference between thinking and working outside the box and being reckless and I can help guide you. Fortune favours the bold!

We Need Less Managers and More Leaders

I believe that the world needs more leaders and fewer managers. we need to be leading other not managing them. The best leaders lead from out front and not from behind and as a result, I tend to get knee-deep into my projects.
